Hi everyone! Today I woke up late and was not hungy until it was afternoon. I decided once again to steam some veggies and fish, and while waiting for it to be prepared I took a look at the large tv screen in the common room. I tried messing with it, because I was so curious to watch some American tv. There was no one in the common room, so I had the room (and couches and TV) all to myself. Because I would only go out at night I made myself comfortable to enjoy dinner and some TV. Enjoy reading!
I ended up watching some judge show and the Jerry Springer show for an hour long. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry! It was soooo funny, lol. I cannot get over American television and how fake it can be! The commercials mostly stood out though. I swear every commercial break there were at least 5 commercials on either legal assistance ór about some dude trying to convince you to get up and go to college.—I even spotted Lil Romeo rapping about school, lol. Man, you can sue people for anything here! No wonder people sue for the craziest stuff, you are constantly reminded of it through television, hehe.
After I finished my breakfast/lunch/dinner I headed over to my room to get beautified. Later I met up with my only fellow summer session European to go to a festival. The Open Roof Film Festival, which would supposedly be hosted on a roof and near Sugar Beach. On our way we did spot a club with a party on a roof (I was excited), but we did not see any screen for a movie to be projected on, so we kept looking for the right place. We searched like crazy, until we spotted some people and asked them for directions. It turns out... The festival was on an effin parking lot! "That is the misleading part, sorry", I was told. Meh, that is such a damn bummer.
Also, apparently the focus was really on the movie, I thought it was just a minor extra detail. But I guess I read the description wrong. We did have the best view ever though and had some good food (Brazilian BBQ buns) and wine! We watched the movie "Spring Breakers". I left the parking lot utterly confused and could not get Riff Raff out of my head.
We walked home instead of taking the subway, and we ended up walking trough a creepy park and deprived looking street I never bother to walk through. I got home really tired, but I had a fun evening. Although it obviously did not at all go as expected.
On a different note though, that movie... It was mainly full of nekkid boobs, booze, and drugs. Oh, and Gucci Mane. But watching the house/frat parties the girls got loose at I thought "So where are these parties exactly, because I have not encountered one yet and I live on campus, lol". I know I am not in the U.S., but still. I mean Degrassi was pretty dramatic and full of wild children, but nope. Canadians, to me, come off pretty "rustig" to me, and maybe even a bit boring when it comes to partying. Or maybe I have been hanging out with the wrong crowds.
My American (study abroad) dream is slowly fading away, because aside from the wide selection in supermarkets and ridiculous low prices for eating out, definitely not everything is "bigger and better" in North America. Although I really enjoy my time here, I guess some things are better left to Europeans. Apparently, we have a reputation of knowing how to party hard, lol. Pfffff, I am feenin' to go to an American red cup party. I miss Paradiso and Jimmy Woo!
