Study Abroad Day 18: In search of housing in YYZ

Hi guys.

No exclamation mark, because I am feeling quite sad. This is the first official day of being slightly homesick. I do not necessarily want to go home, because I am enjoying myself here. Studying here has been a wonderful experience to me until now. It is just that... I CANNOT STAND MY ROOM! I swear I picked the room from hell to stay in for my time here.

It started off bad by only being able to choose from rooms on the basement floor (dafuq I know), thus having the most ghetto view (what view?) ever. But I soon adapted and found out the perks of living here: (1) a room near the washroom, (2) no need for air conditioning, because my room rarely gets hot (minimal sunlight coming in through the window), (3) a bigger room. But then, after that darn flood last week, my carpet started smelling like crazy.

Apparently, my floor was wet because of the flood (wtf with the architects of this building). So I chilled in this room for days while it smelled all moldy! But I was not sure if it was just me you know. And being in the room for a few minutes you kind of get adapted to the hideous smell. But what annoyed me the most was that my feet and slippers would get moist every time I stepped out of my bed. And so I filed a complaint.

The other day I was chilling in my bathrobe, while all of the sudden I heard rambling at my door. I peeked through the peephole and saw one of the cleaning guys trying to open my door. He was evenly surprised as I was when I opened the door. He asked whether I needed a carpet cleaning, I told him yes but that I was supposed to tell them when I would be available. He told me he expected an empty room, no one told him it was occupied. I am at a loss for words regarding the way they handle things here, smh. Anyways, that was sorted out. A few days later (now) my carpet is nearly dry and it smells less when you enter the room. BUT, something else was doomed to happen of course.

I had been annoyed by these fruit flies for at least a week. I still do not have a clue wth they came from, seen as my window is protected from insects, but they are all over the place! I do not have food stored outside of my fridge or containers either, so I am kind of lost here. Before I went to bed today—made an attempt to I mean, now three hours later I am still awake—I decided to slaughter a bunch of these mofo's. Then while chasing one flying up the wall I turned my head to the ceiling and was baffled. My whole damn ceiling is full of those pests! And unfortunately I cannot reach it. I decided to file a complaint the next morning and just go to bed.

But as soon as I got comfortable, out of nowhere a few enemies decided to wish me goodnight. WOW, if there are bugs/insects whatever you want to call them I seriously hate with all my heart (I do not give a damn whether they eat flies or not) spiders would definitely take the crown. I feel totally attacked here by insects and I have not laid one eye to rest the whole night. It is past 3AM here now, yes. Can I please get a different insect-free room in a totally different building, yes thank you very much. I would much rather be spending my rent money on clothes, but a girl's got to sleep somewhere I guess.
