Study Abroad Day 39 (Part 1): Started from the...

Hi everyone! Today it was finally time to head to Niagara to see the Falls! Initially we planned to take a daytrip with some tour operator, but then we decided to just take the GO transit train there ourselves. It was a fun trip, because I saw another side of Canada I had not seen before. We had to take the train, then transfer to a bus, and lastly walk for a bit to get to our destination. I was exhausted from the days before, but excited nonetheless! This was definitely top priority on my to do list as a tourist here.

We took the train at Union station—which leaves every hour—and we were supposed to transfer at Burlington. The train was pretty comfy and empty enough for us to both to sit on one side of the train. I sat on the right window and was very tired, but did not want to go asleep. Because the view was so magnificent! Nope, no wonders of nature. But a lot of houses and green! I just loved passing by all the houses of people living outside Toronto Downtown's core. It gave me a sense of how average Canadians live. In the center are a lot of tourists, young people, hipsters, expats, and of course students. I wanted to know about the people that do not live in the center and go to Costco for grocery shopping every week, lol.

One of the first things I noticed when the train was speeding up was this sign hidden behind a tree. I was too late to take a good picture of it, but if you look closely you can read "Sta" and "Fr", lol. It is the "Started from the bottom" billboard you can see in Drake's video! Toronto's pride.

We had to get on a bus at Burlington to take us to Niagara. I hated the bus trip, except for the lovely view I had. Because the glass was tinted the pictures unfortunately do not really reflect reality. The bus trip was shitty because of that damn airco! Other than that it was pretty comfy. But damn that airco made no sense at all! It was not even that hot outside.

When we got off the bus (one stop before the last station) we were told we would have to walk about 15 mins to get the Falls. There were no street signs really telling us where to go, so we just decided to follow the mass.

Apparently Niagara was like a mini Vegas with a lot of casinos and hotel motels. All the motels had a pool outside, lol. So fancy schmancy, hihi.

I was close to becoming a grumpy ass, seen as I did not have any breakfast or lunch that day. Before heading to the Falls we thus decided to have lunch somewhere, and the first restaurant we spotted was Al Macs Buffet. The Nutty Professor II scenes kept replaying in my head, hihi. Eight dollars for unlimited breakfast/lunch? I did not know what to expect, but I knew the food would probably not be the most nutricious and involve lots of grease. But hey, for the experience I wanted to give it a try!

I went all out and walked around the buffet with two plates, because (1) I wanted to try out everything, and (2) I was NOT planning to stand in line again, lol.

The food was okay, especially for the price (C$7.99). I really liked the omelet, toast, sausages, and bacon. But just looking at these pictures you can tell the lack of nutrients available at this restaurant. The only pop of color you can see is the ham, lol. And we all know that pork is everything but healthy. I think I finished about 6/8 of the plates together. I liked the idea, but I would rather bake this kind of greasy food at home myself. I really would not like to eat like this every day, not even every week. Maybe once every few months. Then it was finally time to head over to the Falls!

To be honest I did not expect for Niagara to be this much fun! I thought the Falls were just situated in a nature reserve setting, but it was so over the top touristy and American there! Clifton hill was full of attractions (many haunted houses especially) and fastfood joints. My eyeballs almost popped out and I made a promise to myself to return here one day with my future kids.

We walked down the hill to finally see the Niagara Falls. I was über excited!
