Study Abroad Day 37 (Part 1): Sneakerfreakdom and shoeïcide

Hi guys! Today it was finally time to act like a true tourist in my new hometown. Because my time is precious I decided to cram two museum visits in one afternoon. Because my new friends were not able to join me I decided to explore some culture of Downtown Toronto together with my fellow UvA'er! Before we left we had some lunch in the café downstairs and I chose to grub down on some chicken Ceasar salad and butternut squash soup. Oh em gee. That soup was DIVINE, I cannot wait to cook my own when I get home.

The first stop today was the Bata Shoe Museum, located on the corner of Bloor and St. George. Supposedly there was a sneaker exhibition there, which sounded kind of interesting. Although I would have still preferred an exhibition on designer heels of the last five years of course. The museum had three floors. On the first floor the evolution of the shoe was exhibited. From Egyptians to Indians, from Christians to Muslims.

Also, one could take the stairs up where you could see shoes of celebrities and other famous people. I still do not get why Bieber's sneakers were there though. Nothing against him, but to put him in between legends Ella Fitzgerald and Elton John? That is just plain confusing.

The second floor was full of gorgeous boots and shoes made according to Native tradition. I could not choose which I liked the most, all of them were so vibrant in color and beautifully made.

Another part of the second floor was dedicated to the art of shoemaking. Here you could see how shoes were or are made in some cultures.

Lastly, on the top floor was the sneaker exhibition. Also, you could see the offices of the museum.

The souvenir shop was nothing too special, I only bought a pencil hihi. Did not know what else to buy, but I really wanted a souvenir. So I bought a pencil, hehe.
