Study Abroad Day 38 (Day 1): Carib-ummer

Hi everyone! Today I woke up dead tired from yesterday, but excited nonetheless, because it was finally the day of Caribana 2013! I woke up ahead of time to curl my hair and do my makeup. My fellow UvA'er and I decided to have lunch together and drink a glass of wine to get in the mood. After lunch we were supposed to meet up with one of my new friends and go to The Exhibition Place together to watch my other friend in the parade. Unfortunately, our planning went sour!

For lunch we went to a café called Pour Girl not too far from campus, that had a terrace outside to sit in the sun. The prices were super reasonable (only C$7 for homemade fries and a burger), and the menu offered a lot of variety (e.g. pancakes with fries, stir-fry, and nachos). I went for the sweet potato fries (I loooove sweet potatoes, yumm) and homemade beef burger. The beef was spiced nicely and I could not get enough of the fries. These fries are one of the things I will miss as well!

After consuming a few wines and waiting for hours for the other girl to meet us, we finally decided to leave for Caribana to check it out by ourselves. Because we did not have a phone to call with we were unfortunately not able to find out where my friend was to watch her in the parade. We walked to Bathhurst and took the streetcar down to The Exhibition Place. The view from the streetcar was lovely.

We did not really know what we were looking for (some music and partying I guess, lol), so we just tried to follow a mass of people. We saw many girls in skimpy blingy outfits (I would have loved to wear one as well, hihi).

We ended up at Lake Shore taking a few pictures and looking for some food. Unfortunately the lines were so long, we decided to head back Downtown to eat.

We finally crossed a bridge to head back Downtown and that was it for my experience at Caribana 2013. Nothing exciting right? This is just one more reason to come back to Toronto in the future! To finally experience Caribana the way I was supposed to! Maybe I can even wear a sparkly outfit myself then, hehe. Even though I missed the partying aspect, I did stumble upon many gorgeous blingy outfits and buttnekkid girls.

Stay tuned for 'Part II' of this day and to find out where I had dinner! I was not going to let missing out on the parade ruin my day of course, hehe.
