AYCE fusion (review Miu)

If you have been a loyal reader of my blog from the jump or know me personally, you will know that I have had my fair share of all you can eat (AYCE) sushi experiences. Also, I have had dinner at authentic Japanese restaurants a few times, making me a very picky eater when it comes anything sushi related. So when I got an invitation to go out for sushi at a new AYCE place called Miu in Amsterdam, I immediately looked up the menu online.

The interior looked very stylish and modern, and the menu excited me. Aside from the usual Cali maki, ebi tempura, and lamb chops *yawn*, I also spotted some Chinese (e.g. dim sum) and Indonesian (rendang) dishes on the menu. Also, the spider roll (which is usually a premium dish one has to pay extra for) was available, so dinner looked very promising.

My first impression was definitely positive, because of the nice interior and friendly staff. The food also did not take very long to be served, which is a big plus for me! The maki were definitely not the best I have had so far (oh so small, lol), but then again my standard might be a bit too high for an AYCE restaurant. For the price paid they were of good quality, and the warm dishes (e.g. gyoza) were like expected (standard, but good nonetheless).

My favorite dish of the evening was probably the sashimi tartar duo! The dish that disappointed me the most was the sui kau soup I looked forward to. This was the first time I spotted this delicious favorite of mine on an AYCE menu, so I jumped on board immediately. Unfortunately the dumplings were stuffed with tiny Dutch shrimp (I think), which have a really distinct non-sui kau stuffing taste. Another surprise on the menu were the meat dumplings I ordered, which tastes like Nepalese momo's.

All in all, I had a wonderful evening and went home with a full stomach (very important!). The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and good service, which are greatly appreciated. The food was of similar quality to the best AYCE sushi restaurants, but the menu is a bit more diverse. However, I would not recommend you to choose to eat here over other places, only due to these extra dishes (because the ones I tried out were not thát special).

Dishes from top to bottom
♡ Tartar duo
♡ Softshell crab roll
♡ Wakame salad
♡ Deep-fried shrimp roll & California salmon roll
♡ Seafood springroll
♡ Unagi maki
♡ Chili shrimp
♡ Lamb chops
♡ Sui kau soup
♡ Siu mai
♡ Black sesame icecream

Lobi,

p.s. The unagi maki was filled with cream cheese, which was an unpleasant surprise (lactose and stuff, lol). Such a shame, because the eel was delicious. I would have preferred tamago instead of the creamcheese.

Price for dinner: €26,50
