Cosmo fashion internship (update 2)

Hey lovies! Just like last week, this one has flown by so quickly! Before you know it my internship will already be over, boohoo... But let us not get ahead of ourselves, because in reality I have only completed two weeks as a fashion intern at Cosmopolitan.

The week started off very hectic, because I had to pick up some last minute samples and return some old samples while at it. When I got back to the office I got assigned the lovely task to pick up a special prop for a future ELLE shoot...

A Hermès bicycle, yes you read that correctly. Unfortunately the bicycle—which was obviously not made for actual cycling—was very lightweight, which caused me to almost fall off it numerous times whenever a gush of wind passed me by. Back at the office the freelance stylist and my supervisor were going over tomorrow's styling ("the run-through") and I was able to watch them at it, and to soak up all this information new to me. #andysachsmoment As if this was not enough fun for me I went macaron shopping afterwards with the stylist. To conclude this wonderful first day of the week I dropped off some samples at my old internship partner we visited last week.

On Tuesday I had my first real experience on set of a fashion photoshoot! We were shooting for a beachwear spread to be featured in the June issue. I had to leave home early morning, because I was responsible to bring the styling to the set at 9 in the morning. So I took a taxi from the office and arrived on time carrying two large suitcases, two huge bags, and my own purse. Then I packed out the suitcases and hung all the items according to the models' pictures. During the shoot I was of assistance getting the models dressed, took notes for the credits, watched professionals at work, and helped styling some shoes and macarons for the fashion cover.

For lunch we had catering and there was a super long list of sandwiches to choose from! I would have had a hard time picking one, had my choices not been automatically limited because of my lactose intolerance. I opted for the olive bread with grilled eggplant, smoked chicken and green pesto. It was de-li-cious! Coming from a no bread type of person. Then again, it had better been delicious for the price it came with. After the shoot was a wrap I packed all the stuff and we "celebrated" with some high-fives, hugs, and macarons!

Because we went straight home from the set after we wrapped up the shoot, I had to pick the suitcases up the next morning. Unfortunately one of the bags was so packed so full for yesterday, the bag actually ripped on my way to the shoot. I took responsibility of packing this time and I managed to pack everything in such a manner that it would be possible for me to carry everything to the taxi without any help.

After the taxi dropped me off at the office I started unpacking and checked all the credits. I wrote during the shoot. For those that are unaware of this term, this is what we call the sales information for a shoot. Every item that makes it on the picture(s) has to be rightfully credited with the correct brand and sales price. In magazine publishing you work ahead a few months, so while everyone is enjoying the sunny weather fashion magazines are already discussing the latest winter trends! This means you often work with samples that will not be in stores for a few months, and their prices are often determined at a later stage. It is the intern's job to stalk PR agencies for the correct pricing information! #andysachsmoment

Although there was not really a system set in place by previous interns regarding PR samples loans and returns, it was common to either check off the items from the packing slips upon return, or document which items were sent back on the computer. Unfortunately, there were 3 ELLE interns aside from me, and only two computers available! So I had to manually write down which items I returned to the PR agencies, which was a tiresome job! #andysachsmoment Luckily I got the task to pick up something personal for my supervisor, which gave me the opportunity to enjoy the lovely weather outside and to drop off some samples on my way there.

The next day I planned to return as many samples as possible, but while I was taking notes on which items I already packed I was suddenly interrupted. It was apparently essential for me to ship off the borrowed Louboutins, ánd to return some shoes that were borrowed by the previous intern almost two months ago. I had no clue which shoes to return or where to return them at. I managed to get a hold of the shoes after diving into old packing slips and the shoe closet. My fellow interns gave me an address and off I went. When I got there though, I could find no sign of existence of the office I was sent off to. There was no one at the reception, so there was no one to help me find my way in the building, nor could I get in. I asked every person that left the building if they knew on which floor so and so was located, but no one had a clue! Luckily I am quite skilled when it comes to skimming emails and Google, and I found out I was given the wrong name! I was supposed to look for an agency that represented the brand, not the brand itself. #andysachsmoment

Inspired by this tragedy, I decided to start a new binder to document all the packing slips for 2014 and start organizing the slips in the old binder. Then I decided to move all the samples for return to another room, so I would have enough space to finish packing everything the next day.
On my last day of the week I finished organizing the packing slips and made a priority list of the samples for return. Then I dropped off the ones that were supposed to be returned immediately or soon.

I had still not received the opportunity to check my Cosmo computer account, seen as the pc's were usually occupied. But when I finally got the opportunity, I found out my log-in information was incorrect. Being the go-getter that I am, I of course went on a hunt to find the IT men, and sure enough I finally had access to my email account within less than 15 mins. I decided that sorting out emails would be great to do for the coming week!

This was such a tiring week, but I loved (almost) every minute of it! Have a blessed and fun week and follow me on Instagram to stay updated during the week!
