One of my favorite shows to watch back in 2011 was most definitely VH1's "Single Ladies", featuring Stacey Dash and LisaRaye. Although the second season also had me sitting on the edge of my chair thanks to Keisha's storyline, I am still bummed we did not get to see Val back! One of my main reasons for missing her on the show, was her fabulous style! Anthony L. Williams, whose name you might have recognised from Heidi Klum's show "Project Runway", is the brain behind all the styling of the ladies throughout the show.
This new series is dedicated to Val's style in season 1, and will show you all the outfits she wore to inspire your wardrobe! Underneath every outfit I briefly share my personal opinion on them. Enjoy! Warning: Contains spoilers
Episode 4: Confidence Games
Outfit 1
Love it. (Do I really need to say more? That color combination is to die for.)
Outfit 2
This off-the-shoulder ensemble was very classy, not necessarily screaming "Come get me if you are rich and hot" though. Keisha's dress on the other hand was. But then again, she was also the only one that wanted to be present in that rich men's smokey club that evening. The gloves were an extra touch to the outfit, but did not seem very convenient.
Outfit 3
To be honest, I was not a huge fan of this outfit at a first glance. On a second glance I still do not appreciate that oddly placed slit in the middle of the dress. I would have preffered the dress without. Also, because of the already excessive amount of fabric due to its maxi-nature, I do not really find the wide sleeves that appealing. Or do I? Maybe the longer I look at it, the more my opinion starts to diverge. But for now it screams too much hippie, less glamour. Not that anything is wrong with a hippie-style though! The cleavage is cut perfectly, and the detailing on the dress is gorgeous. It looks beeded all over to me, but correct me if I am wrong.
Outfit 4
What can I tell you? Those familiar with my previous posts know that I am a huge fan of green(-ish) colors on Val. This bodycon dress (à la Herve Leger) fits her like a glove, and the back is cut out beautiful as well. Check out the episode to see more of the dress!
Outfit 5
No. Just no. I got the whole Coco Chanel look that was trying to be portrayed here. But it just does not work for me. The (vintage) earrings make her look old, and although its color nicely contrasted the black outfit, the yellow bag did not come off classy to me at all, but rather * dare I say it* cheap. I would have definitely chosen a more form-fitting dress for this outfit.
Outfit 6
Unfortunately, not much is seen of Val's outfit during her home-date with Teddy, but did I capture a good shot of her or what?! You can barely see her animal printed heels, as she quickly tries to avoid being embarrased by Teddy's family who suddenly came home. The top is simple, but seductive.
Outfit 7
I really like this outfit and especially the ponytail on Val, but I do believe it is a bit too young for her. Also, already showing so much legs, I would have buttoned the shirt all the way up.
Outfit 8
I think I got ganggreen-fever. That back! Gor-geous.
This concludes my third TV-celeb inspo post, starring Val Stokes from VH1's "Single Ladies". Let me know in a comment below which outfit you liked the most!
